Hey everyone, exciting news: I’m thinking about going to beauty school! I’ve had this idea on my mind on and off for the past 5 years or so and now I’m actively taking steps to do things that will make me happy. I met with an official from Paul Mitchell school today and am applying for part time classes Mon-Thurs 5pm-10pm as I’ll continue working full time at my bank. This is exciting and nerve wrecking all in one, it will take up almost all of my time but I’m looking forward to it. Now I just have to figure out financial aid.. what a nightmare!
As part of my application I have to write an essay describing a. my biggest disappointment b. my biggest achievement c. my career goals and d. how I believe Paul Mitchell schooling will help me achieve my career goals.
“I always though my biggest disappointment in life had been not finishing college. I was unable to attend my second year of schooling as I had taken out a student loan in an insufficient amount and needed to pay additional tuition. I watched as all of my friends graduated, each taking jobs perfectly suited to their wants and personalities as I worked entry level office jobs that left me with little gratification. While happy for them, this also left me feeling like I was missing out on something “bigger”, something that was right for me.
Then one day I realized that not continuing on my chosen career path (psychology) was a positive opportunity. I have always been an open, creative, interactive individual and the career I’d originally chosen would not have led me down a path to job satisfaction. I began working at a professional beauty distributor store and was thrown into a world I knew nothing about. I started learning as much as possible, reading anything I could get my hands on, talking to everyone in the industry to pick their minds. I really fell in love with the cosmetology world. I did very well at my job, eventually learning enough to help answer questions, recommend appropriate products and services, and taking a lead position in sales.
To this day, I would say accepting that job was my biggest accomplishment because it led me to where I am now. Finally I know what I want from life, and from my career. I want to be in an ever-changing industry, that’s creative, innovative, and hands-on. I want every second of hard work put in to be rewarding and fulfilling. I want to help others look and feel their best, and have fun doing so. Most importantly, I want to look forward to work every day because I am doing something I love.
I believe Paul Mitchell schooling can help me accomplish my goals by providing the knowledge, hands-on experience, and customized learning, needed to make a transition to the beauty industry one day. I appreciate the core learning system, emphasis on individual learning styles, and ability to mix formulas and take clients during training periods. I also value the learning environment: that classes seem fun, students are respectful of one another, while still maintaining a professional approach and look. Without a doubt Paul Mitchell is the right place for me.”
So what do you think? Anything you would reword or add? Anything you’d take away?
Your opinions sooo count to me guys!
