DIY Beauty


Happy monday guys! Its a wee bit gloomy here, so i figured id do a quick post.

I had a bit of free time when elliott was golfing on Sunday, which almost always ends in a spa day. I’ll usually do a hair/face mask, and mani/pedi. This time i looked into trying some DIY beauty with ingredients that were at already at hand.


I started with a healthy broccoli and cheese egg white omelet. So good! I sauteed 2 tbsp onion with two sliced button mushroom, 1/4 cup broccoli florets, and 1 tbsp olive oil for about 4 minutes on medium heat. Add 6 tbsp (2 egg whites) egg beaters, pepper, and garlic powder. I also added a pinch of cayenne. Let cook, covered 1-2 minutes. Add 1/4 cup fat free mozzarella and 2 tbsp grated reduced fat cheddar. Cover additional 1-2 minites. Fold and serve.

1. Radiance boosting face mask.
This was super easy to make and smelled delicious! Seriously, i had to convince myself not to try some. Mix 1 tbsp baking soda, 1 tsp organic honey, and a few drops of water until you get a paste-like consistency. Apply and leave on 5-10 minutes, Rinse. The baking soda will absorb oil and give gentle exfoliation, while the honey will calm inflammation and moisturize. Just be careful not to scrub too hard when rinsing off.

2. Hair thickening mask. This one takes more time to prep, as it needs to be prepped overnight. Bring 1 cup water to a boil, add 2 tbsp whole cloves and boil 5 minutes. Let stand over night and strain twice in the morning. Pour over strands prior to conditioning, once a week. The eugenol in cloves will help to protect from environmental pollutants and appear more full. Be wary that this may temporarily enhance and/or darken the hue of blonde and brown hair.

3. Sweet body scrub. You’ll find these all over pinterest, and for a good reason! They’re super easy to make and are perfect for exfoliating the skin on your body. Mix 2 tbsp olive oil and 2 tbsp sugar or salt (i used sugar), add vanilla or almond extract for a sweet scent. Rub gently on damp skin in circular motions, pay particular care to knees and elbows.

On a side note, though i didn’t do it on Sunday, a favorite of mine is an hair mask filled with healthy fats to restore your hair. Mix half an avocado, 2 tbsp olive oil, and one egg. Mix, apply, and leave on for up to 20 minutes for shiny, healthy, hair.
